Quotable quotes"The cost of turf, whether it is or is not suitable for a lawn, is almost prohibitive. When cut to the usual size -- three feet long by one foot wide -- nearly fifteen thousand pieces are required to cover an acre. The expense, including cutting, carting, and laying, seldom falls short of £100. If cut in twelve-inch squares and kept flat, the outlay is still higher. For the same area six bushels of seed of the highest quality can be obtained for about £9, and supposing that for urgent reasons an extra thick seeding is considered necessary, the outlay will seldom exceed twelve per cent. of the expenditure for turf." p. 2
