Abstract/Contents: | Summarizes the process and concerns incorporated into the development of the Atlantic Golf Club (Southhampton, NY), involving local officials, the community, the developer, the architect, and local environmental groups. Pre-development studies on vegetation, ornithology, wildlife, soils, hydrology, traffic, archeology, turf management, and herpetology were used to identify areas of concern. Special species management plans, erosion control measures, the reintroduction of native grasses, and planting of native shrubs all contributed to improving the habitat value of the course. |
