Abstract/Contents:The drought caused several problems, especially for lawn care industry. Where grass watering was banned, fertilization and herbicide programs had to stop. With the July rain a tremendous population of crabgrass germinated. Acclaim was sprayed for crabgrass control and Turflon II for broadleaf summer annual control. The drought had left its marks in August/September and where the turf didn't recover well, it became infested with crabgrass. This proved the importance of increased fertilization for turf recovery. The lesson to be learned from the 1988 summer drought is there is not always one approach that works for every situation.
