| Abstract/Contents: | Addresses the issues involved with continuing effective golf course maintenance despite extreme shifts in weather patterns. Discusses harvesting rain and drainage water for irrigation sources in times of drought, as well as strengthening legislation against the widespread use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers. States that "the R&A promotes the encouragement of grass species that are less reliant on water and chemicals." Notes that the R&A is actively promoting fescue and browntop bentgrass, as well as other warm-season turfgrasses to reduce the need for excessive water consumption and chemical use. Comments on the revenue that hosting The Open Championship will bring to the northwest region. |
