| Abstract/Contents: | In intensive trials at 3 sites of turfgrass mixtures which included Lolium perenne cv. Aberystwyth S23, Festuca rubra cv. Highlight and Canadian creeping red fescue, Agrostis tenuis cv. Highland, Poa pratensis cv. Baron and Phleum pratense cv. Aberystwyth S.48, wear tolerance was strongly related to the proportion of L. perenne, but in certain mixtures Poa pratensis and Phleum pratense provided substantial additional cover following wear. The higher the proportion of F. rubra and A. tenuis the poorer the wear tolerance, although mixtures based mainly on these spp. gave the best ground cover in the absence of wear. In cv. trials, L. perenne cvs Pennfine, Ensporta (rather drought-susceptible), Manhattan and Sprinter generally showed the best ground cover under the most intensive treatment. These and other results relation to continuing trials. |
