Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the research conducted on Ovavesicula popilliae,a pathogen that affects only Japanese beetles and no other insects or animals that helps to suppress their populations. Reports that six years after the release of the protozoan pathogen in Southern Michigan, there was a 55 percent reduction in Japanese grubs along with a significant reduction in egg production. States that the natural spread of the protozoan is slow, so in order to speed up the process, biocontrol field days have been held where golf course superintendents and Michigan residents can pick up Japanese beetles infected with the protozoan to take back to their own course or lawn. |
