Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the ways that Poa annua may become invasive on golf courses, how it grows, and prevention methods for the safety of other grasses. States that Poa annua can be classified into subspecies that have different growth characteristics. Highlights findings from various research studies that have shown that paclobutrazol and bispyribac-sodium are the herbicides most effective in controlling Poa annua. Suggests that "that use of maintenance practices that encourage the desirable species and give them a competitive advantage is essential." Lists factors that can effect levels of Poa annua, including increasing drainage efficiency on greens, turf density, and irrigation methods, among others. Includes methods of holistic approach for eliminating Poa annua from a golf course. |
