Abstract/Contents:States that "researchers at Oklahoma State University have published several papers showing that MSU [Michigan State University] bermudagrass is the top rated cultivar with regards to cold tolerance." Mentions that "along with the turf breeder at Kansas State University, the cultivar served as the maternal parent for Midlawn bermudagrass, an interspecific hybrid that is among the most cold tolerant of any commercially available cultivar." Overviews DNA testing on 50 bermudagrass samples collected from Michigan State University and its results which showed that "the cultivar is highly (or solely) self sterile, and can therefore be considered a vegetative cultivar, which means that its spread across main campus primarily by the transport of stolons and not by seed dispersal." States that the ultimate goal of this research is to see if this cultivar is a vegetative cultivar and not a seeded cultivar because only vegetative cultivars can be patented.
