States that the original objectives of the founders were "to foster, encourage, promote, advance, and create interest in the practice of an encouragement of golf." Mentions that the Oakland Open was held at Claremont in January 1937, and was won by Samuel Jackson Snead, a 24 year old who had never won a major tournament before. Describes Claremont Country Club as being heavily wooded, boasts many bunkers, the fairways consist mainly of poa and bermuda, there is tremendous clover cover, and the greens are a mixture of poa and seaside bent. |
