Abstract/Contents: | "'Tifway' bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon) response to monthly and bimonthly applications of urea, and two particle size ranges (grades) of ureaformaldehyde (UF) and isobutylidene diurea (IBDU) at several rates was studied over a 2-1/2 year period in sub-tropical south Florida. Based on visual turf ratings, a positive response was generally observed up to the highest application rate (15 g N/m2/month). For all 3 sources, monthly applications usually resulted in better turf appearance than bimonthly applications at the same overall N rate. The coarse grade of UF and fine grade of IBDU were superior to the other grades of the same sources. No single N source was consistantly superior throughout the study period. Urea was an effective N source when rainfall was low. Even under the sub-tropical climatic conditions of the test, cool weather reduced the effectiveness of UF relative to IBDU. But periods of excessive dryness or of heavy rainfall coupled with high temperatures favored UF. UF gave substantial residual effect up to 9 months after the last fertilization." |
