Abstract/Contents:The effects on soil physical properties and on turfgrass root development were investigated for combinations of several soil amendments (sand, pumice, Hygromull, peat, Hygropor and Agrosil). Adding peat to the soil improved the water-holding capacity and grass root growth, compared with adding Hygromull. High rates (31% b.v.) of Hygropor greatly reduced the moisture permeability of sandy soil; however, they did not improve permeability on a soil containing much clay and silt. Agrosil added alone to a very sandy soil greatly improved its water-holding capacity, but this effect was not seen when peat, Hygromull or Hygropor was added as well as Agrosil.
