| Abstract/Contents: | Turfgrass thatch was a major impediment to the downward movement of the entomogenous nematodes (Neoaplectana carpocapsae Weiser (=Steinernema feltiae) "Breton" and "All" strains, N. bibionis Bbovien, and Heterorhabditis strain "HP-88." Only 6.0-14.6% and 10.4-17.3% of the nematodes applied to the surface were recovered in leachate after three irrigation treatments of 0.32 and 0.64 cm, respectively, over a 48-h period. A significant increase in thatch penetration was observed when the irrigation rate was increased from 0.32 to 0.64 cm for only Heterorhabditis strain "HP-88" and N. bibionis. Results of this study indicate that a metod to bypass the thatch layer may increase nematode efficacy. |
