Abstract/Contents:Discusses golf course layout and design concepts to consider when designing the first hole of a golf course. Suggests that the first hole should not be overly difficult and that the designer should "let him [the golfer] dig his own pits - there is no need yet to dig them for him." Concludes that the "first impression is probably as important as the hole itself."
