Abstract/Contents:"In a sub-irrigation trial various soil material and grass material were tested. Soil material with a high content of nutrients or a good waterholdning [waterholding] capacity produced the best turf. Therefore the normal soil and the mixture of sand, sewage sludge and peat resulted in the best turf standard. The plots were fertilized via the irrigation water. Consequently, a soil material with a low waterholdning [waterholding] capcity [capacity] received a low amount of nitrogen. Therefore the mixtures of Hygromull + sand and bark compost + sand did not produce the very best turf stadard [standard]. The mixture peat + sand were very favourable for the development of Agrostis tenuis, obviously because of a high water capacity. Since it is very unfavourable to have Agrostis tenuis in sport turf, it is recommended to limit the content of water holding particles in the uppermost layer."
