Abstract/Contents:Overviews the decisions that have to be made during the time between winter and spring if superintendents "wish to eliminate or reduce winter damage on the greens to a minimum." Discusses the short and long-term effects of wet and frosty conditions, including compaction, puddling, browning of the turf, and disruption of putting surfaces. States that "if the little inconvenience caused by employing winter greens is accepted by players then the actual greens will be better preserved for when they are required and expected to be at their best."
