Abstract/Contents: | A personal profile of Arnold Palmer. "He is an athlete held in the affection of the American public in measure never before granted in our history." He is also a gifted aviator and has logged more than 1,500 hours. His name is entered in the aeronautical record books in a score of places attesting to his proficiency as the pilot of a long-distance executive jet. Palmer is the president of Arnold Palmer Enterprises, a smallish conglomerate that cleared around $20 million last year. Politics interested him once, but he knows that politics are not for him. Unofficially, he is the personification of American golf. "Palmer understands there is a kinship between the professional golfer and the fan that has no counterpart in any other element of public life." |
