Abstract/Contents:Discusses the history of bunkers in golf and the roles that they can play in a course. Suggests that bunkers should be placed in areas where they affect shot-making choices by golfers but do not strictly serve as punishment for making a bad shot. States that the idea that a golf course can be overhauled by redoing its bunker system is not necessarily true by saying "there may be room for improvement but much broader factors determine merit" and that "a general overhaul also runs the risk of too much change being dictated by fashion." Lists twelve tips for creating and designing golf course bunkers.
