| Abstract/Contents: | "Fungicide trials were conducted on a commercial Kentucky bluegrass seed production field near Post Falls, ID. Individual treatment plots were 10 x 20 feet with five replications in a randomized complete block, split-plot design. Four fungicides were applied at two rates of active ingredient per acre on June 2 (pre-anthesis) and June 18 (post-anthesis). Treatments were applied with a CO2 powered boom sprayer at 40 psi using a 28 gal./acre carrier rate. Plots were rated for disease severity on July 3 by observing 1) the amount of sclerotia, 2) the amount of panicle exudate (honeydew), and 3) by determining the amount of honeydew by feeling panicles by hand for stickiness (tactile). On July 5 approximately 100 panicles were hand harvested per plot and the mean weight per panicle of clean seed and sclerotia were determined. Disease was observed in all plots and was severe in untreated and nonefficacious fungicide plots. The least amount of disease was observed in plots treated with Punch at pre-anthesis. Intermediate levels of control were observed with Tilt (8oz. a.i./A) and Folicur (7.2oz. a.i./A) when applied at pre-anthesis. Little control was observed when fungicides were applied post-anthesis except for Punch (87oz. a.i./A). Seed yield per panicle was reduced with pre-anthesis application as compared to post-anthesis application of fungicides." |
