Abstract/Contents:"Field trials were conducted on a 'Plush' Kentucky bluegrass seed production field near Post Falls, ID> individual tratment plots were 10 x 20 feet with five replications in a randomized complete-block design. Two wetting agents were applied at two rates of product and two carrier volumes per acre on June 18 (post-anthesis). Treatments were applied with a CO2 powered boom sprayer at 40 psi. Plots were rated for disease severity on July 3 by observing 1) the amount of sclerotia, 2)The amount of panicle exudate (honeydew), and 3) by determining the amount of honeydew by feeling panicles by hand for stickiness (tactile). On July 5, approximately 100 panicles were hand harvested per lot and the weight of clean seed and sclerotia per panicle and sclerotium weight were determined. Uniform disease was observed in all plots and was severe in untreated and nonefficacious treatment plots. Penaturf applied at post-anthesis reduced sclerotia, honeydew, and tactile ratings. Wetting agent rates and carrier volumes had little affect. Yield (mg/panicle) of kentucky bluegrass and sclerotia were unaffected by treatments. Sclerotia in plots treated with Penaturf were, in general, lighter than those in check plots or in plots treated with Hydrozyme. Penaturf applied at late anthesis provided good honeydew control and would improve harvesting of infected seed fields, but would not reduce the weight of sclerotia in affected seed lots."
