| Abstract/Contents: | "The experiment was conducted on the Turfgrass Research Plots at the Horticulture Research Station of Iowa State University near Ames, IA. The plot was maintained at 5/32 in cutting height and received conventional care. Fungicides were applied to 4 ft x 5 ft plots using a modified bicycle sprayer at 30 psi and a dilution rate of 5 gal/1000 sq ft. The experimental design was a randomized complete block with three replications. Treated plots were alternated with untreated plots to minimize interplot interference. Plots were inoculated with a mixture of eight isolates of Lanzia spp. and Moellerodiscus spp. (grown on autoclaved rye) on 31 May to supplement natural infection. Fungicide treatments began on 5 Jun and were repeated on 19 and 26 Jun, and 3 and 17 Jul, depending upon the application interval specified. The number of dollar spot infection centers per plot was counted on 28 Jun and 11 and 27 Jul. Unusually rainy weather prevailed during June and July. Dollar spot symptoms began to appear on 21 Jun. Disease development was moderate to severe on 28 Jun and 11 Jul and severe on 27 Jul. Almost all treatments suppressed dollar spot significantly better than the untreated control. The only exceptions were Banner at 1 oz, Banner at 0.5 oz plus Plex at 0.37 oz, and Chipco 26019 Flo at 4 oz on 28 Jun. No phytotoxicity symptoms were noted on any rating dates." |
