Abstract/Contents: | States that the profiles of inspected playing surfaces continue to remain wet, a cause of concern for superintendents. Provides a number of possible causes for profiles being wet including surface shape, excessive thatch, and poor drainage rates. Suggests in-situ and finer textured soils have lack of surface fall, thus contributing to the wetness problem. Mentions that "thatch accumulation can have a debilitating impact on the ability of a sand profile to efficiently drain and retain excessive moisture." Details the United States Golf Association's (USGA) recommendations for where to place the profile. Concludes with suggestions on how to remedy the wetness problem at certain times during the year. |
