| Abstract/Contents: | "No job is completely secure if you cannot perform the job you were hired to do. Ineptitude or non-performance should carry the consequences. There are also unknown variables that come into play when talking of job security." When dealing with Mother Nature, jobs must be performed to the best of one's abilities, and success will assure job security. When things don't go quite right, job security drops off quite a bit. When things are good you are the greatest, when they are tough there are no friends in sight. Because the superintendent is the figurehead of golf course operations, he is always immediately seen as the cause of the problems. A drop in job security, due to uncontrollable external forces or personality differences with a key club member, is a particular aspect of this business which could use some protection. Unfortunately, nothing short of legal action is available. Through support from peers, maybe superintendents can educate employers to the real problems at hand, increasing everyone's job security. |
