| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses general information about synthetic turf products. States that older versions of artificial turf such as AstroTurf restricted turning of the feet which could lead to ankle and knee injuries, but these concerns are lessened in newer artificial turfs that use longer fibers and granular infill. Notes that concerns have been expressed about chemical exposure from artificial fields, but testing has found that any levels of exposure are lower than those that would be dangerous to health. Details findings about the surface temperature of artificial fields, stating that they can reach temperatures that can cause users to suffer from heat related illnesses like dehydration, but that "there is currently no way to cool the surface of synthetic turf for an extended period of time." |
