| Abstract/Contents: | States that the performance of golf greens is very important to the success of golf courses, and that the Sports Turf Research Institute (STRI) Agronomy Service can create a plan for golf courses to accomplish this goal. Describes the process for the STRI's new winter assessment program for testing greens and determining the issues that are causing problems in the greens. Gives an example from a course that had experienced deteriorating green conditions over the past 10 years due to a lack of proper maintenance, leaving the greens very slow and thatchy. States that STRI created a plan to renovate the greens, and lists the changes that were made. Notes that a measured appraisal by STRI can allow a better understanding of the situation and give a way to focus efforts, as well as more effectively communicating the need for maintenance to golf course members. |
