Abstract/Contents: | Discusses renovations to The Renaissance Club (TRC) that converted the first 3 holes of the course to a practice area and created 3 new ones extending to the coast of the Firth of Forth. States that there were many environmental concerns that had to be considered during construction. Notes that it had been decided that it was unacceptable to destroy any of the rare fixed dune grassland in the area, and because of this a small portion had to be moved to another area in order to make room for the 10th tee. Explains that the grass had to be transplanted using flat-bed utility vehicles using a small trail in order to prevent wear damage to the surrounding environment. States that fill material needed to be brought in to the tee areas, and as the tee areas are the only unprotected areas on the land, fill needed to be put down from the center outward in order to avoid running machines on protected land. Concludes that the project is an example of how golf "can be played in truly breath-taking surroundings without being detrimental to the natural environment." |
