Abstract/Contents: | States that the Sports Turf Research Institute (STRI) has been working with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) to prepare soccer training facilities for use during the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. Notes that 24 facilities at 8 locations have been selected to be used. Explains that data was collected from each field and was reviewed by statisticians, and that reports for each field were created in order to determine what work needed to be done for each. Lists the processes for renovation that were undertaken at Newcastle University, Cardiff University, Long Lane Junior Football Club, and the University of Warwick. Announces that groundstaff from each of the training venues attended a training course at STRI's headquarters in order to highlight the differences between turf maintenance at club and tournament levels. States plans for future maintenance up to and through the Olympics. |
