Abstract/Contents:"Fungicide applications were initiated 26 Jun 1990 prior to the appearance of R. solani activity. Treatments were applied on either a 14 or 21-day interval on the dates footnoted in the data table. Fungicides were applied with a CO2 pressurized (36 psi) sprayer in 2.5 gal water per 1000 ft2. Soil was a chillum silt loam with a pH of 7.1 and 1.3% OM. Plots were 5 by 5 ft, and were arranged in a randomized complete block with four replications. Percent of plot area blighted was determined visually on a 0 to 100% scale. Rating that exceed 5% plot area blighted would be considered unacceptable brown patch control on golf course fairways. Overall quality was assessed visually on a 0 to 10 scale where 0 = brown of dead turf and 10 = optimum greenness and density. Disease pressure was moderate in Jul, but became severe in Aug when weather conditions remained overcast and wet for long periods. During Jul, all treatments except Pace provided commercially acceptable brown patch control. In early Aug disease pressure increased dramatically, and on 3 Aug acceptable control was only provided by Banner, Banner + ProStar, and CGA 4545 50W applied at 1.0 and 1.5 oz on a 21 day interval. Between 10 and 24 Aug, brown patch pressure was extremely severe. Despite all treatments being applied 7 Aug, no fungicide provided acceptable control during the remainder of the test. All treatments, however, significantly reduced blighting in Aug. Data revealed that CGA 455 50W at 1.5 oz and Banner had provided the best combination of disease control and overall turfgrass quality when the study was terminated 24 Aug."
