| Abstract/Contents: | "Fungicides were applied 28 Mar 1990 when L. fuciformis was active in thatch, but prior to any apparent foliar blighting. Treatments were applied with CO2 pressurized (36 psi) sprayer in 2.5 gal water per 1000 ft2. Soil was a Chillum silt loam with a pH of 7.1 and 1.3% OM. Plots were 5 by 5 ft, and were arranged in a randomized complete block with four replications. Percent of plot area blighted was determined visually on a 0 to 100% scale. Overall quality was assessed visually on a 0 to 10 scale where 0 = brown or dead turf and 10 = optimum greenness and density. Disease pressure was moderately severe as weather conditins became more conducive for foliar blighting in May. Initially all fungicides, except Systhane, reduced foliar blighting significantly. By 30 Apr, the residual effectiveness of Daconil 2787 4F and SAN 619 appeared to decline; however, only Daconil 2787 did not reduce foliar blighting significantly during May. Chipco 26019 and both rates of ProStar had provided excellent, residual control of red thread. Overall quality data often reflect the commercial effectiveness of a fungicide. Data showed that best overall quality was provided by Chipco 26019 and ProStar. While Systhane and Lynx reduced foliar blighting, the quality of plots treated with the aforementioned fungicides was similar to untreated turf on 11 May." |
