Abstract/Contents:Provides a step-by-step pictorial guide for monitoring insect pests. States that "the best way to use this guide is to use monitoring devices to track the insect pests at your site and their population trends throughout a growing season and to keep records of insect infestations." Includes steps regarding monitoring devices for aboveground insects: pitfall traps, linear pitfall traps, light traps, pheromone traps, vacuum sampling, sticky cards, and night collecting, as well as belowground: soapy water flush and soil sampling. Concludes that "monitoring for insect pests is essential to anticipate and thereby cost-effectively manage a potentially damaging insect infestation."
