Abstract/Contents:Details the beginning of mower technology including the eventual Triplex mowers which were popular when they came out in the United States and in Europe. Explains that pedestrian mowing was still used by the PGA European Tour and some other courses for various reasons, one of which was the "generally accepted improved appearance of greens cut by hand." Compares the costs for using Triplex mowers versus pedestrian mowers for one course, providing information such as service costs, life expectancy, man power, replacement parts and other golf course tasks. Presents the daily mowing schedule used for the course and provides in depth review of how the system works. Concludes with a note that states "the single most important golf course maintenance operation, cutting the greens, is improved most by the quality of the cutting equipment employed, the skill of the operator and the frequency with which it is used."
