| Abstract/Contents: | Suggests that there are problems in the golf course industry concerning inexpert players and members attempting to demand changes to rules and playing conditions as well as disrespecting the integrity of the game. Describes two groups of these people, one of which goes by Yobs, while the other goes by Yuppies. Explains Yobs "climb up the face of bunkers; they never replace a divot; they scream and shout ... and they never let anyone through, whilst taking hours to play a round." States that "since [yuppies] often have little inherent ability and less time or humility to learn [golf], they either demand that the course be altered to suit their play, or go flat out for Captaincy via the Green Committee as the best way to achieve their ends." Discusses potential methods to educate about the golf industry. Notes that the British and International Golf Greenkeeper's Association (BIGGA) could potentially be used as an educational tool. |
