Abstract/Contents:A dialogue with Pete Dye on golf, golf course design, etc. A list of golf courses he has designed are included. Some of the questions include those about the maintenance of his own golf course and his views on how golf has changed over the years. He feels that more sophisticated equipment has affected golf the most dramatically. Dye also expresses his preference to building a golf course rather than designing it. He claims that he really enjoys "being involved on a day-to-day basis." When asked about the effect of environmentalists on golf course architecture, he replied that when he built the golf course at Kiawah, "every drop of water that hits the golf course is recycled into the irrigation ponds...That sort of thing has a tremendous impact on the environmental people." He adds that he does not plan to retire any time soon. In fact he said that "as long as somebody wants me to come build a golf course, I'd like to build it."
