Abstract/Contents:"The Balsam company have been chosen as official suppliers of synthetic surfaces to the Barcelona Olympics in 1992, and they already laid three Astro turf pitches which will be used for hockey during the Games. The company works on a nationwide basis specialising in the design and construction of running tracks, hockey and soccer pitches (both sand-filled and non-sand-filled), multi-sport surfaces, indoor surfaces and safer surfacing for children's playgrounds. Balsam (UK) believe that one of their major strengths is the ability to handle virtually all stages of a project, and to offer guidance on the type of installation that will best suit a client's requirements. Athletics tracks represent another very important market for Balsam (UK). The Spurtan range of synthetic surfaces has been developed to suit all climatic conditions. All are laid to the DIN standards for synthetic surfaces and have been approved for international use by the IAAF and other governing bodies. The German parent company has extensive research and development and testing facilities in-house, making the company very flexible to market demands."
