Abstract/Contents:"Six selections of buffalograss (Buchloe dactyloides) were planted at the Research Station in Ithaca during the 1990 growing season. Plugs were planted on 12 inch centers on June 1, 1990. The selections were evaluated for spreading vigor, quality, percent cover 3 months after plugging, and percent dormancy in late fall. The data are presented in the table below. Selection 304 exhibited the greatest spreading vigor and nearly filled the plot after three months. Selections 315 and 409 were very slow to spread and fill in the plot, although 315 tended to have the highest quality. Selection 609 maintained good color late into the winter, but was slow to green up this spring, as reflected in the May 24 quality rating. It was interesting to note that the selections that went dormant the earliest in the fall were the quickest to green up this spring."
