Abstract/Contents:Provides question and answer segments from some choice Sports Turf Managers Association (STMA) members regarding strategies they use to help their fields recover from winter more quickly. Discusses different tactics to accomplish this; overseeding prior to winter is key to getting the turf to grow faster come springtime; using a course United States Golf Association (USGA) spec sand topdressing will allow for better drainage; lowering mowing heights on ryegrass in the spring and applying low amounts of nitrogen help jumpstart the growing process; utilize Isobutydine diurea (IBDU) for cool season grasses; use a combination of cultural practices and chemical applications to better control winter diseases; apply a pound of nitrogen that is quick release in the late fall, then apply a half pound in the late winter months to kick start grass growth; fix patches of spring dead spot using fenarimol; applying compost will produce healthier turf.
