Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the heathlands to the south and west of London and how they are known to be the world's oldest great inland golf courses. Follows Adam Lawrence as he searches for how the area was developed for golf. Details the history of the golf courses and towns visited, and relates their development to the golf course industry. States that "the whole of the healthlands, golf and all, was essentially one big piece of land speculation. The clubs may have been founded for the love of golf, but they would not have spread were it not for the businessmen who developed the area for housing." |
