Abstract/Contents:Describes the history of Fusarium systematics from 1935 when Wollenweber and Reinking published their monumental work on Fusarium taxonomy up to the present day and the new or "modern" systems. "Discusses the two extemes in the taxonomy of Fusarium species since the turn of the centyury. The "splitters" are represented by Wollenweber and his colleagues and the "lumpers" by Snyder and Hansen and their colleagues. Neither group produced a practical identification system for Fusarium species. Using the information discussed in this paper and additional information from current research, a practical system for the identification of Fusarium species can be compiled."
