Abstract/Contents:"The field trial was conducted on a creeping bentgrass ('PennTrio' = blend of 'Penncross', 'Penneagle' and 'Pennlinks II') driving range maintained as a fairway at Bellewood Golf Club (New Coventry, PA) with native clay loam soil of pH 6.2 and 2.1% organic matter. The site had not been fertilized or received any pesticides or supplemental irrigation in 2012 prior to the start of this field trial, and was mowed two times per week with a reel mower to a height of 0.500 inches with clippings not typically removed. Foliar dollar spot infection centers or foci were first observed in late June, and therefore the objective was to evaluate fungicides applied at USA and international rates for early curative control of dollar spot. The treatments consisted of US formulations of fungicides applied at recommended US and international rates. In most cases, these formulations are the same, although recommended international rates differ from US rates. Since only US formulations of products where used in this trial, some treatments tested are close approximations comparing US and international rates. The plot size was 3 ft x 5 ft and all plots were arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The treatments were initially applied on 2 Jul and subsequently on a 14-day schedule (16, 30 Jul and 13 Aug) with a CO2-pressurized (40 psi) backpack sprayer, delivered in 1 gal water-carrier per 1000 sq ft, from two 8004E flat-fan nozzles spaced 18 inches apart. Active infection centers were visually counted once per week (selected rating dates presented) and data were subjected to analysis of variance with treatment means compared by Fisher's protected least significant difference test at P <= 0.05.The site has a history of severe dollar spot activity during the summer months, and disease pressure was again severe in early July. After the third round of applications on 30 Jul, dollar spot control improved among all fungicide-treated plots as evidence by statistically lower dollar spot activity compared to the untreated plots. Overall, dollar spot control was statistically similar when comparing each fungicide treatment applied at either the USA or international rate."
