Abstract/Contents:"The study was conducted on a Maury silt loam located at the University of Kentucky Turf Research Center near Lexington. The turf was maintained at 0.188-in. mowing height and fertilized with 18-9-18 at the rate of 1.0 lb N/1,000 sq ft on 12 Sep 11, 1.5 lb N/1,000 sq ft on 10 Oct 11 and 1.0 lb N/1,000 sq ft as 46-0-0 on 20 Apr 12. Plots measured 4 ft x 4 ft with 2-ft borders and were arranged in a randomized complete-block design with three replications per treatment. Fungicide sprays were applied using a CO2-pressurized hand-held sprayer fitted with Spraying Systems 8003E flat-fan nozzles delivering 1.5 gal/1,000 sq ft. Fungicide treatments were first applied on 2 May, after dollar spot was first detected in late April, with the remaining treatments applied according to the spray intervals indicated in the table (final application on 31 Jul). Daconil Action, Briskway, Appear, Secure and Velista treatments were not applied for the first time until 16 May. Where tank-mixes were rotated, sprays were applied every two weeks, with each tank-mix being applied once every four weeks. Visual estimates of turf quality were taken on several occasions and included deterioration of leaf color and density as well as developing leaf necrosis from brown patch, anthracnose, dry patches induced by fairy ring, copper spot, and several abiotic factors. Turf quality rating scale 1-9 with 9=excellent quality. The level of infestation by Poa annua was visually estimated on 2 May, when color differences between the two grass species and the presence of P. annua seed heads facilitated discrimination. The amount of P. annua per plot averaged 38 percent and did not differ significantly between treatments. Data were analyzed using ANOVA (alpha=0.05) and Waller-Duncan k-ratio t-test (k=100). Disease pressure was low to moderate in this test. Factors affecting turf quality in the plots included brown patch, anthracnose, drought stress, fairy ring, possibly nematodes, and turf color and texture. Damage from dollar spot was not included in turf quality assessments. Most of the fungicides and spray programs consistently produced a higher quality turf than the control with the exception of TeraGanix EM-1, AG1000 and at times Velista. No phytotoxic or growth regulator effects were observed in this study."
