| Abstract/Contents: | "The results of investigations concerning the dynamics of nitrate in the soil, which is also of great importance for turf and greens, can be evaluated quite often only with difficulty because of the high variability of the measuring values. Especially with regard to the size of the objective and the methods applied when taking samples and preparing them accordingly, the following points of view should be observed. For questions in relation with agriculture the nitrate contents should be stated in NO3-N/ha. It is not appropriate in this connection to state the concentration in mg NO3/l of soil water, since it depends on the moisture in the soil. In connection with the methods applied to take samples, attention should be paid to the fact that the values obtained with the aid of sucking plugs, due to the differences in concentration as a result of different size of pores, depend on the sub pressure. The total quantity of nitrate in an exactly limited soil layer can be assessed with the aid of a boring tube. The storing of the samples and their preparation has a safe influence on the assessed nitrate values. It is especially a longer storage in the laboratory as well as the freezing of the soil samples which causes higher nitrate values in comparison to fresh soil samples taken immediately." |
