| Abstract/Contents: | Overviews twelve ways that turf managers can help to elevate baseball team defense by enhancing turf conditions. Discusses main areas of the baseball field that would benefit from special attention such as the catchers area, home plate, the pitchers mound, the base lines, the outfield and infield, and areas surrounding first, second, and third base. Provides explanations for why each area needs special attention, and explains the benefits that enhancements in these regions will provide to the physical functioning of the players. Highlights problems each area typically undergoes and gives suggestions for how to resolve them. Suggests to maintain acceptable moisture levels in the dirt by tarping the dirt when the weather is right, to avoid moving too much loose material around when screendragging, heavy watering early or late in the day, or deep spiking. |
