| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses a debate between golfers and course superintendents regarding green speed. Notes that "the opinions of golfs and turf managers are often polarised with the golf only concerned with the speed of the greens, and the greenkeeper only concerned with the health of his grass and the damaging effects of mowing too low for too long." Details the processes that the Sports Turf Research Institute went through to accurately measure green speed amongst golf courses in the United Kingdom in order to determine which course type has the highest and lowest green speeds. Reports that "not surprisingly it suggests that green speeds on links courses are generally higher than those on parkland and heathland sites." Suggests that to achieve this, turf managers "have to focus a little more on attaining green speeds, as well as the other key playing qualities of smoothness, trueness and firmness." |
