| Abstract/Contents: | Presents a study conducted by the United States Golf Association (USGA) to "develop research based on crop efficients (Kc) for efficient irrigation practices in recreational turf (golf and sports) under maintenance and climatic conditions typical of the New England region." Details the methods and materials used in the study, stating that "two methods were used to calculate Kc values. Method 1 calculated Kc values as the ETa-to-ET0 ratio based on yearly (seasonal) averages derived from daily ET measurements. In Method 2, the regression intercept was forced through zero and the regression slope was used to estimate the Kc value as an alternative to the ETa-to-ET0 ratio method." Reports that "after two years of field study, results indicate that a lower Kc value may be more appropriate for golf fairway and green turf compared to taller grass." Concludes that "implementation of WaterSense® specifications of 60 to 80% of reference ET0 when using FAO 56 as the reference ET0 value may severely under estimate actual cool-season turf water use in summer for the cool-humid New England region." |
