Abstract/Contents:"Fungi of the genus Pyricularia have been reported as major pathogens of many turfgrass species as well as many species of grain grasses. Comprehensive literature records the occurrences of these pathogens and helps to show that there may exist only one species of Pyricularia pathogenic to grasses." The earlier distinction between P. grisea and P. oryzae is called into question, as studies show that both fungi have the same sexual state, the ascomycete Magnaporthe poae, a phenomenon not duplicated in any other pair of fungi. The question as to which name should take precedence concludes the article.
