Abstract/Contents:"Varietal differences in effects of CCC and dikegulac on the seed yield and yield components were studied on four varieties including early and late ones in a field trial. They were applied on March 1 (early application) and on March 23 (late application, just before beginning of the stem elongation). In all varieties plant height was markedly decreased from about late March to early May by early application of dikegulac but at maturity stage the effect disapperared. Lodging was decreased by early application of CCC in all varieties. Lodging time was delayed 7 to 11 days by early application of dikegulac compared with the other treatments in all varieties but in Waseaoba. Such a delay of lodging by dikegulac was recognized to have relation to the effect of shortening the stem. Marked difference among varieties in the effects of CCC and dikegulac on the number of ears was found indicating the decrease in some varieties and the increase in others. The weight of seeds per ear was increased by CCC and was decreased by dikegula in all varieties. Varietal difference in the effects of CCC and dikegulac on the weight of 1000 seeds was recognized, decreasing Waseyutaka by the former and in Waseaoba and Waseyutaka by the latter. The number of seeds per ear was increased by CCC in all varieties but was not markedly affected by dikegulac. The seed yield was increased by CCC in Waseaoba and Waseyutaka showing the varietal difference in its effect, while decreased by dikegulac in all varieties and no significant difference among varieties was found. Above mentioned, the effects of CCC and dikegulac were recognized to be different among varieties of Italian ryegrass in seed yield and yield components depending on the time of application in some characters."
