Abstract/Contents: | "2,4-D with glyphosate are frequently used to control winter-annual weeds because of their effectiveness, but little has been reported on the control of 2,4-D plus glyphosate on summer annual weeds. 2,4-D with glyphosate can help control summer annual broadleaf weeds that are resistant to glyphosate. Our objective was to quantify the effectiveness of tank mix rates of 2,4-D plus glyphosate for control of common summer annual weeds in Indiana. Field experiments were conducted in 2009 and 2010 in Lafayette, IN utilizing a randomized complete block with a factorial arrangement with six rates of 2,4-D (0, 28 0, 420, 560, 840 and 1120 g ae ha-1) and three rates of glyphosate (0, 560 and 840 g ae ha-1). 2,4-D alone and tank mixed at all rates controlled giant ragweed (Ambrosia trifida). Common lambsquarters (Chenopodium album), giant foxtail (Setaria faberi), tall waterhemp (Amaranthus tuberculatus) and velvetleaf (Abutilon theophrasti) varied in their control with 2,4-D alone, but glyphosate alone or glyphosate mixed with 2,4-D were effective at controlling these weeds at all tank mix combinations. Further research is needed to determine the effectiveness of 2,4-D plus glyphosate to control glyphosate-resistant weeds." |
