Abstract/Contents:"The purpose of this investigation was to determine the feasibility of converting an annual bluegrass (Poa annua L.) and bentgrass (Agrostis tenuis Sibth.) putting green treated with endothall or endothall/bensulide into a predominantly bentgrass stand. Ten days after a field application of endothall exp3 (7-oxabicyclo (2.2.1) heptane-2, 3 dicarboxylic acid) or 17 days following and endothall/bensulide (0,0-di-isospropyl phosphorodithioate S-ester with N-(2-mercothethyl) benzenesulfonamide) application, various turfgrass overseeding techniques and mowing heights were tested. The most effective overseeding technique when endothall (1.25) kg ai/ha) was applied alone involved two passes with a spike-aire cultivator followed by a Rogers seeder and a subsequent mowing height of 9 mm. However, when the pre-emergence herbicide bensulide (15.0 kg ai/ha) prededed the endothall application, aerification followed by a drop seeder and subsequent mowing height of 9 mm was the most effective technique. The results of this study demonstrate that a successful bentgrass overseeding can be achieved shortly following an endothall or endothall/bensulide treatment using techniques that permit seedling avoidance of the bensulide."
