| Abstract/Contents: | "Twenty-nine tall fescue cultivars (Festuca arundinacea) were evaluated at the Joseph Valentine Research Center, University Park, Pa. The study was established in September, 1987, in a completely randomized block design with three replications. The 4 x 6 ft plots were seeded at 6.0 lbs / 1000 sq.ft. Plots were mowed at 1.25 in and received 1.8 lbs nitrogen / 1000sq.ft. (0.45 lbs in April and 1.35 lbs in September). Weeds were controlled with pendimethalin, 2,4-D, and ethofumesate. The study was irrigated to prevent severe drought stress. Quality ratings were taken on June 6 and August 6 using a scale of 0-9, where 9= best quality. Color, density, weed and disease presence were criteria in assessing quality. Plots were also rated on August 6 for percent affected with brown patch (Rhizoctonia solani). This percentage was then converted to a scale of 1-10 where 10=100% of plot affected using a modified Horsefall-Barret scale. Ratings were subjected to analysis of variance and Fisher's protected lsd at the 5 percent level." |
