Abstract/Contents:"Postemergence crabgrass herbicides were evaluated for their efficacy on smooth crabgrass (Digitaria ischaemum) in 'Columbia' Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis) at the Landscape Management Research Center, University Park, PA. Control ratings of 85% or higher were considered to be commercially acceptable. Treatments were applied on July 17, 1990, with a hand-held CO2 powered boom delivering 40 gal/a. Phytotoxicity was rateed August 7, 1990, and crabgrass control was rated August 31, 1990. BAS 514 34 H provided acceptable control at all rates that recieved two applications 30 days apart. Single applications at the high rates of 0.75 and 1.00 lbs ai/a did not provide acceptable control. BAS 009002 S surfactant improved the activity of BAS 514 34 H more than BAS 865 01. There was no discoloration of the Kentucky bluegrass by any BAS 514 34 H treatments, although it did appear that patches of fine fescue infested in the bluegrass were injured by rates above 0.75 lbs ai/a. All four rates of the two experimental formulations of fenoxyprop injured the Kentucky bluegrass. The rates of 0.125, 0.18, 0.25 lbs ai/a injury was acceptable. Also, only the 0.125 lbs ai/a rate of FORM 1 provided acceptable control of crabgrass."
