Abstract/Contents:"An evaluation of fungicide treatments for control of necrotic ring spot (Loptosphaeria korrae) was carried out at the Landscape Management Research Center, University Park, PA, on Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis 'Touchdown') maintained under home lawn conditions. Individual plots, 3 ft x 12 ft, were arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Treatments were applied with a CO2-powered boom sprayer, using T-jet 8004 nozzles, at 30 psi, in water equivalent to 2 gal per 1000 sq ft. Applications were made on 18 Apr, 15 May, 11 Jun, 12 Jul, and 6 Aug. Each test plot received 0.5 inches of water at the time of treatment application. The nonwatered-in treatments were irrigated just prior to treatment application, and fungicides were allowed to dry on the grass foliage. The watered in treatments (WI) were irrigated immediately after application of treatments. Disease severity was visually evaluated on 8 Aug. Data obtained were subjected to analysis of variance and duncan's Multiple Range test. The purpose of this test was to determine the effect of post-application irrigation on efficacy. Although disease pressure was high, it was variable throughout the experimental area. Data separation is poor, however it appears that Tersan 1991 did not provide suppression of necrotic ring spot in this test site. It also appears that post-treatment irrigation did not effect fungicide efficacy, under the conditions of this experiment. The notable exception is Bayleton, which was more efficacious when watered-in after application. The results obtained in 1991 with Bayleton and Tersan 1991 at this test site confirm similar data from 1990 (F&N Tests 46: 313)."
